June is the hectic time for graduations in this country. There seem to be more graduations now than ever before with some schools celebrating graduating preschool, grammar school and even middle school now. The big graduations, however, are still the ones from high school and college. High school graduation is such a big event because it signifies that your child is ready to head into the world whether it is college or the workforce on their own after being dependent on you since birth. The majority of seniors that are graduating high school have parties to celebrate and the nagging question is always what should you get for the graduate. This will look outside the box and try to be more creative with those gifts such as getting drafting tables and drafting chairs for your daughter who is going to art school.

A good idea is to do something that is centered around what the graduating senior wishes to study in college if they are sure about that already. Try to put together a gift that is related to that area of study, for example, if the graduate is headed to art or design school think about getting them a basket full of art supplies or a gift card to a special art store in the town where their school is located.

Another good idea would be to get a special monogrammed briefcase for the graduate who is planning on studying business in college. Find one that fits their personal style, whether it is more formal and conservative or more casual and laid back. This is a wonderful gift that they can use when they do an internship or interview for their first jobs after finishing school. If the student plans to study accounting, you can put together a gift bag with an assortment of items such as top of the line calculator and anything with numbers for a clever present.

For the high school graduate that is planning on studying marine biology, do a gift that is all marine animal related or items that have to do with the ocean. Perhaps a membership to the area aquarium along with pretty stationary that has an aquatic theme is a great gift. Another thoughtful idea is to find the college or university that the student will be attending and buy an item from their campus store website. This could be something like glassware with the school name on it to a beautiful blanket or even a sweatshirt to show your support their choice of going to that school and are excited for them.

The more personalized your gift is for the new high school graduate, the more special it will be. They will get many checks and gift cards but the gifts that require some effort in understanding who they are and what they are interested in will be noticed and be more appreciated and certainly remembered.
